His newfound abilities set off a series of hilarious and perilous events, including encounters with eccentric local celebrities including ice cream magnate Steve Swirly and the enigmatic Mesmo the Magnificent, and a brewing conflict with Gene-Genie's disgruntled enemies.
GENE-GENIE is the genetics division of a consumer products conglomerate led by the visionary, but ethically challenged entrepreneur, Todd Turple. Turple has left behind a trail of former mentors, advisors and personal assistants whose ideas he brilliantly repurposed and made a fortune from. Dr. Science is one of them. Science met Turple years earlier when Science hosted a popular children’s science show on public television and Turple was a guest assistant. Now, in a humiliating turn of events, Science works for Turple.
One warm summer evening a disgruntled Gene-Genie employee secretly releases a top secret, genetically altered mosquito from the company’s bug spray division. Once outside, the massive insect spots Melvin Melman sleeping in a tree house and attacks! What happens next turns the lives of Mel and his family upside down and transforms the awkward youngster into a winged warrior.
Ok, maybe not a warrior exactly, but some pretty big things happen: Mel learns to fly; Mel’s mom gets mad; Mel meets ice cream magnate Steve Swirly and local celebrity magician Mesmo the Magnificent; Dad gets mad; and a lot more.
Unfortunately for Mel (and his family), Gene-Genie’s sneaky staffer isn’t the only person in town with an axe to grind and he’s soon joined by other malcontents with evil plans and unresolved anger issues of their own.
